DECEMBER 2002
The photos below show progress on deck, in the galley, the main and aft passenger cabins, and the navigation station. Topside, paint and trim work begin to give the ships a clean and "almost finished" look.

December 28, 2002 >>>>>>>

Construction is moving ahead quickly with only a brief break to celebrate the Christmas holiday. Sea trials are expected to begin next month on the Irving Johnson, with Exy to follow in March or April, 2003. Time is critical: the vessels are scheduled to be delivered to the Maritime Institute and begin service in early 2003.

The annual "Christmas Afloat" parade through the Main Channel of the Los Angeles harbor saw the Twin Brigantines decked out with holiday lights and decorations. The December 7th event was the first time the two vessels were seen in public together since their launch last April.

Berths have been installed on both vessels. Carpenters are joined by painters in nearly every cabin above and below deck as finishing touches and trim work are added. The installation of heads and showers is well underway. Both vessels have newly installed stoves and refridgerators in their galleys; custom built cabinets are being fitted for installation in the days ahead.
